Senegalese Khabane “Khaby” Lame has officially become the most followed content creator on TikTok. Khabi on Wednesday night, swept past Charli D’Amelio garnering a follower count of 142.6 million to D’Amelio’s 142.3 million.
About a year ago, he became the second person to hit 100 Million Followers on TikTok and now he is number one.
Khaby Lame first started on the platform in March 2020 during a particularly difficult time in his life — Italy was in lockdown and he had just lost his job because of COVID-19. His desire to make the most out of his situation and turn it into an opportunity to achieve his dream of making people laugh motivated him to start a TikTok account and share his first comedy videos.
Khaby is known for leveraging TikTok’s duet feature to react to overcomplicated “life hacks.” He has been successful online and offline. He was recently chosen by Pepsico to promote its new Nitrogen-infused cola, Nitro Pepsi. In October last year, he helped Mark Zuckerberg show people how easy to jump around in the metaverse. Early this year, Lame signed a multi-year deal with the iconic fashion line Hugo Boss.
Talking about losing the number 1 position, Charli D’Amelio said “I had No. 1 for two years. It’s time for someone else to have that spot, and I’m proud of him. He’s a friend, and there’s no bad blood. It feels great to know that someone else is getting that spot — someone that is sweet and a good person and loves what they do.”
