Seedstars World Competition has kicked of its seventh edition since it first held the startup competition in Africa, with applications open for its Kenyan leg of the event.
The competition will select winners from competing startups across the world, who will then convene in Switzerland for the 2020 Seedstars Summit to compete for the grand prize of $500,000 in equity investment among other exciting prizes.
The Kenyan leg of the event has opened applications, and will continue to receive them till June 14th. The event is set to take place at Nailab on June 28th. 10 Kenyan-based early stage startups will pitch during the event in a bid to represent the country at the Seedstars Summit.

Eligible startups must have raised less than $500,000 and have in the very least a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Existing traction would make for an added advantage. The startup should also have the potential to scale both regionally and globally.
Seedstars Africa Regional Manager, Claudia Makadristo, said, “We are very excited to come back to Kenya for the seventh time! The stakes are higher than ever as we’ve been in this ecosystem for years now, and know there are companies in Kenya developing high-quality products. We are looking for the best.”

Seedstars will venture into Sierra Leone and Cape Verde for the first time, among 28 other previously participating countries in Africa.
This years competition has undergone some changes. For one, bootcamps will be held prior to each local event for the 30 pre-selected startups.
The 2018 Kenyan winner was Bluewave, a local insuretech startup.
