Being an entrepreneur is not just a title. You cannot simply have a sterling idea and wake up one morning to establish a company, firm or startup. You are simply setting yourself up for failure.

If you want your business to survive, you need some basic skills as an entrepreneur to run your business. In line with this, we share some of these skills. In case you do not have any one of these highlighted skills, you can enrol in a school or do an online course to horn these skills.

    Business strategy

Business strategy is the roadmap for achieving the organisation’s goals, mission and objectives. An entrepreneur must be knowledgeable about developing a solid, durable, relevant, watertight and well-researched strategy for his business. This will accelerate the growth of the organisation with

    Focus and discipline

It is important for you to keep your eyes on the ball so that you don’t lose focus. This is essential when you are starting off your business as there is a medley of challenges including finance, human resource, sales, and growth. When you eventually overcome these challenges, you now require discipline to maintain momentum. The loss of discipline especially financial will just wreck your business and you will go from hero to zero.

    Communication

Communication-which can be internal or external- may be a less pertinent word in certain organisations. Unknown to them, communication can make or mar any business especially when it is not structured. When it comes to communication, an entrepreneur must be able to organise his ideas, speak directly to people on the company’s vision and goals as well as respects employees.

    Ability to listen

Listening is a skill that many businessmen lack. They talk more and do not bother to listen to their employees and customers. Not having a listening ear will portray you as dictatorial and authoritarian. Besides, you do not only have to listen, you must also take action on the feedback you aggregated.

    Customer focus

A company’s survival revolves around customers. So, if you want your business to be successful, having a strong customer focus and satisfying their needs is the way to go.
