The Co-creation Hub (CcHub), in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, has unveiled the second group of twelve pioneering educational technology startups that will participate in the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship. This initiative aims to bolster startups that are instrumental in transforming the educational sector across Africa by providing them with essential industry support and funding.
In February 2023, Innovation Village reported that CcHub had entered into a new alliance with the Mastercard Foundation to kick off an ed-tech accelerator program, backed by a US$15 million investment, with a focus on nurturing startups in Kenya and Nigeria.
The inaugural year of the fellowship saw the provision of foundational support to a dozen startups from Nigeria, alongside an equal number from Kenya. Building on this momentum, the fellowship is now launching its second year. The new cohort of twelve startups will be endowed with a rich array of resources, including technical and advisory services, mentorship opportunities, educational courses centered on the science of learning, and access to an expansive global network aimed at amplifying their impact.
Among the chosen enterprises are Topset, a language learning solution; Exam Scholars, a platform for testing and learning; Data Entry Academy (DEA), an online academy and community designed to equip job seekers with essential skills; and Genti Media, which specializes in African education and storytelling.
Other participants include Edusko, a platform for discovering and matching schools; Harde Business, a provider of on-demand professional development courses; Magic Lab Academy, which offers animation skills training; and Proud African Roots, an interactive learning platform.
Completing the cohort are Vinsighte, an AI-powered learning platform tailored for individuals with visual impairments; IM FLOW, a platform focused on social-emotional learning; WIFICOMBAT, a career development platform; and Skill Up With Kahdsole, an online learning service.
Nissi Madu, the managing partner at CcHub, expressed optimism about the potential of the newly selected startups to revolutionize educational technology in the region. Following the successful launch of the first cohort, there is a heightened anticipation for the second cohort to contribute significantly to improving educational outcomes for students in Nigeria.
