Secha Capital launches JOIN program to cultivate future business and investment leaders in Africa

Secha Capital, an impact investment firm with a focus on growth capital, has recently initiated an educational initiative named the Junior Operator-Investor Network (JOIN). This program is designed to develop future leaders who are skilled in business management, operational strategies, and investment practices.

Founded by black women, Secha Capital operates on an operator-investor model, strategically investing in a diverse range of companies within Southern Africa. These companies are particularly those that are integrating technology to advance into the sustainable, green economy. In September of the previous year, Secha Capital successfully achieved an initial funding milestone of 300 million South African Rand (approximately 15.7 million US dollars) for its second investment fund. The firm has set a goal to raise a total of 650 million South African Rand (around 34 million US dollars) for this fund.

The JOIN program is crafted to provide a practical learning experience that goes beyond academic theories, connecting participants with the practicalities of building businesses and managing investments. The program leverages the collective knowledge and experience of Secha Capital’s extensive network, which includes investors, entrepreneurs, and industry operators, all with the aim of cultivating a cadre of adept leaders for Africa’s future.

What sets the JOIN program apart is its comprehensive training curriculum, which equips participants with a broad set of skills essential for those in operator-investor roles. Secha Capital emphasizes that this approach is a testament to their dedication to fostering a pool of talented individuals who are equipped to lead, manage, and invest in businesses, particularly those in traditional sectors that are transitioning to become more technology-driven and environmentally friendly.

Tebogo Masekwameng, a principal at Secha Capital, expressed the firm’s enthusiasm for the launch of the JOIN program. The initiative is seen as a strategic move to build a robust community of operator-investors in Africa, who will be instrumental in driving business growth and innovation across the continent.

The programme is accepting applications for its inaugural June 2024 cohort here.
