Yesterday First National Bank (FNB) launched its own branded smartphones – the ConeXis. These android devices – the ConeXis X1 and ConeXis A1 were unveiled at the company’s Portside office in Cape Town, South Africa.
The “ConeXis X1” costs R150 per month over a two year period while the “ConeXis A1” is priced at R59 over a 24 month period. The X1 which is for FNB’s Gold and Premium customers comes with 25 minutes and 100MB of data included while the A1 comes bundled with 15 minutes airtime and 50MB of data included.
Though a ZTE manufactured smartphone, it comes with the FNB logo on the start-up screen, the FNB jingle, an FNB SIM card and a number of pre-installed FNB apps.
The idea behind it is that FNB customers wouldn’t have to take bank statements along as it is already with the bank, and that customers can simply walk in, apply for the phone and walk out with the device and a SIM card.
According to Jan Kleynhans, CEO of the FNB Consumer Segment, “For FNB, mobile banking is more than just having the best banking app. For us, true mobile banking is enabling customers to bank anywhere, anytime using smartphone technology at very affordable prices for our customers.”
The phones will be available as from the 1st of September at over 300 FNB branches.
In addition to the new phone packages from the X1 and A1, the bank also launched FNB Connect Unlimited Calls. This will allow subscribers to make unlimited local calls to any network for only R399 per month. The new Unlimited Calls offer can be taken up together with the FNB ConeXis smartphone deal or any other branded mobile phone. The Unlimited offer is available from the 24th of August 2016.
First National Bank (FNB) was recently voted as South Africa’s top business bank in the 2016 Sunday Times Top Brand Survey for the fourth year running.
