Though I have not actually used Samsung’s ChatON Messenger since I use a Blackberry’s Messenger (BBM) frequently and Whatsapp occasionally, Samsung recently announced that it had hit the 100 million user mark.
The ChatON Messenger service was launched in October 2011, hitting the 50 million subscriber mark in May 2013 and doubling that number to 100 million only four months later.
ChatON’s growth can be attributed to the support it offers across international markets and various OS platforms. The service provides a seamless experience where users can access ChatON through PCs, Samsung feature phones, and all the major smartphone operating systems: Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows Phone. ChatON’s multi-screen support also allows users to sign-in on up to five different devices using one Samsung account ID.
Another key factor in ChatON’s success is that it comes preloaded on most major GALAXY devices – the first of which was the GALAXY S III. Subsequent device launches include the GALAXY Note II, GALAXY S 4, GALAXY Note 3, GALAXY Gear, and GALAXY Camera.
In comparison with other Chat Messenger services, TheNextweb thinks:
WhatsApp leads the industry with 300 million monthly active users (its registered user base is unknown but likely much higher), but ChatON is ahead of BlackBerry’s BBM (60 million), Kik (80 million) and others. However, Asian rivals WeChat, Line and Kakao Talk are larger in size, based on user numbers.
This is one of the first ads of ChatON when it was introduced in 2011.
