Samsung unveiled the next generation of foldable smartphone series at the Samsung Unpacked event held today – the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip3 5G
“With Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, Samsung is once again redefining the possibilities with foldable smartphones that empower users with the flexibility and versatility needed for today’s fast-paced world,” said Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “As a pioneer and industry leader in the foldable category, we’re proud to build on our legacy of innovation with the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3. These devices equip consumers with technologies that unlock new ways to maximize and enjoy every moment with an ecosystem built on openness and innovation.”
The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 are equipped with IPX8 water resistance and built with Samsung’s new Armor Aluminum along with the toughest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to protect against scratches and accidental drops. The devices also include a new protective film made of stretchable PET and optimized display panel layers resulting in a Main Screen that’s 80% more durable than previous devices.
In trying to eliminate the crease usually observed with the foldable phones, Samsung claims that Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 were put through a strenuous folding test, verified by Bureau Veritas, to withstand folding 200,000 times.
Galaxy Z Fold3 5G
It would see that Samsung has finally come up with a near-perfect foldable phone in the Z Fold3. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 2. One of the notable features is the S Pen support as rumoured, making it the first in the company’s foldable phone portfolio.
So users can now use the Galaxy S Pen on the device as with the Galaxy Note. In fact the S Pen for Z Fold3 comes in two options: S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro. Both feature a specially engineered retractable Pro tip with force limit technology to protect Z Fold3’s Main Screen.
Unfortunately it is not yet clear if one can use the S Pen on the Z Fold2.
Available in three colours – Phantom Silver, Phantom Green and Phantom Black, the cover screen for the Z Fold3 is 6.2-inches while the massive Main Screen is 7.6-inches, same as in the Z Fold2. The device sports a 10MP selfie camera, a 4MP Under Display Camera and a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera, a 12MP Wide-angle Camera and a 12MP Telephoto Camera.
