Samsung Unveils Galaxy S26 Series With Built-In Privacy Display and Expanded AI Features

Samsung has officially introduced its Galaxy S26 lineup at its Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in San Francisco, revealing a trio of flagship smartphones centered on AI integration, performance gains, and a new hardware privacy feature exclusive to the Ultra model.

The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra will go on sale March 11, with preorders already open in select markets including the United States.

    Pricing and Availability

Samsung has increased pricing on two models this year. The Galaxy S26 starts at $900, while the S26+ begins at $1,100. Both represent a $100 increase compared to last year’s pricing. The Galaxy S26 Ultra remains at $1,300.

The company attributes some of the price adjustments to higher memory costs and hardware upgrades.

    Hardware and Design Updates

All three models now share a more unified design language. The Ultra is less boxy than previous generations and now uses Armor Aluminum instead of titanium, making it lighter at 214 grams and 7.9 mm thick. Samsung says the material shift also improves thermal performance.

The most notable hardware addition is the Privacy Display, exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Unlike traditional privacy screen protectors, this feature is built directly into the OLED panel. It uses two-pixel types, allowing the phone to restrict viewing angles when activated. When enabled, side, top, and bottom viewing visibility is reduced without requiring a physical screen accessory.

The Privacy Display can be toggled in quick settings, applied to specific apps, or activated automatically based on location.

    Display and Build

    The Galaxy S26 lineup includes:

    • Galaxy S26: 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED display (FHD+)
    • Galaxy S26+: 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display (QHD+)
    • Galaxy S26 Ultra: 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display (QHD+)

All models support 1 to 120 Hz adaptive refresh rates and now feature 10-bit OLED panels capable of displaying up to a billion colours. Durability varies slightly by model, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 across the series and Gorilla Armor 2 on the Ultra’s front panel. All devices are rated IP68 for dust and water resistance.

Samsung continues to offer seven years of software updates across the lineup.

    Performance and Cooling

The Galaxy S26 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor paired with 12 GB of RAM on the S26 and S26+. The Ultra offers either 12 GB or 16 GB configurations.

Samsung claims performance gains over the previous generation include:

    • 19 percent faster CPU
    • 24 percent faster GPU
    • 39 percent faster neural processing unit

The Ultra also features an upgraded vapor chamber cooling system to improve sustained performance during intensive tasks such as gaming and video editing.

    Battery and Charging

    Battery capacities are as follows:

    • S26: 4,300 mAh
    • S26+: 4,900 mAh
    • S26 Ultra: 5,000 mAh

The Ultra supports 60-watt wired charging and 25-watt wireless charging. The S26+ supports 45-watt wired and 20-watt wireless charging, while the base model remains at 25-watt wired and 15-watt wireless charging.

Samsung’s devices are Qi2 ready but still require a magnetic case for full Qi2 compatibility.

    Camera System

The Galaxy S26 Ultra leads the camera upgrades with:

    • 200 MP primary sensor
    • 50 MP 5x telephoto
    • 10 MP 3x telephoto
    • 50 MP ultrawide
    • 12 MP front camera

The primary and 5x telephoto sensors feature wider apertures for improved low-light performance. Samsung has enhanced Night Mode processing and introduced a “horizon lock” feature in Super Steady video mode.

    The S26 and S26+ include:

    • 50 MP primary camera
    • 12 MP ultrawide
    • 10 MP 3x telephoto
    • 12 MP selfie camera

    AI Integration Across the Series

Samsung’s core message around the Galaxy S26 series is deeper AI integration.

The devices combine on-device processing via Samsung’s Gauss model with cloud-based services, including Google’s Gemini AI. Features include:

    • App automation: Users can request tasks such as booking an Uber, with Gemini handling the steps within supported apps.
    • Photo Assist: Natural language editing inside the gallery app, allowing object removal, background changes, and scene modifications.
    • Audio Eraser: Background noise reduction for recorded and streaming video.
    • Document scanning enhancements: Automatic crease, shadow, and finger removal.
    • Smart screenshot categorization: Screenshots organized into categories such as boarding passes or coupons.
    • Call screening and scam detection
    • Now Nudge: Context-based suggestions integrated into the keyboard.

Samsung says the goal is to make AI operate in the background rather than requiring deliberate user input.

    A More Iterative Upgrade

While the Galaxy S26 series introduces meaningful refinements, the hardware evolution remains incremental compared to last year’s Galaxy S25 models. The standout innovations center on AI integration and the new Privacy Display feature rather than major hardware redesigns.

With stronger on-device processing, expanded AI automation, and continued long-term software support, Samsung is positioning the Galaxy S26 series as a performance-focused flagship with deeper contextual intelligence.

Whether the AI enhancements translate into everyday utility for users will likely determine how the lineup competes in a market increasingly shaped by software-driven features rather than raw hardware leaps.
