Samsung has announced that it will delay the launch of Note 8 following the confirmation of Note7 battery problems. The Note8 was expected to be launch at the Mobile World Congress at the end of February.
According to Samsung’s mobile communication president, DJ Koh, it was prompted to delay the launch after an internal and independent investigation concluded that Note7 fires were caused by faulty batteries.
Consequently, the world’s biggest manufacturer of mobile phones was forced to recall the Note7 mobile phones. The recall was estimated to have cost Samsung $5.3 billion.
Meanwhile, Koh commenting on the Note7 battery investigation report said: “Our investigation, as well as the investigations completed by three independent industry organisations, concluded that the batteries were found to be the cause of the Note7 incidents.
“Nonetheless, we provided the target for the battery specifications for the innovative Note7, and we are taking responsibility for our failure to ultimately identify and verify the issues arising out of battery design and manufacturing process prior to the launch of the Note7.
“We have taken several corrective actions to ensure this never happens again, including the implementation of a multi-layer safety measures protocol at the product planning stage, and an eight-Point Battery Safety Check.
”We look forward to moving ahead with a renewed commitment to safety. The lessons of the past several months are now deeply reflected in our processes and in our culture.” He concluded.
