Samsung recently confirmed that it is extending the reach of its Galaxy AI, an advanced artificial intelligence model, to a wider array of devices – and it’s happening sooner than you might think. During an announcement made on Thursday, Samsung revealed that its Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series would all be receiving this innovative AI upgrade by the end of March.
Galaxy AI, celebrated as one of the highlights of Samsung’s Unpacked event this year, equips newer Samsung devices with a varied assortment of features. These include live translation capabilities, text summarization, automated message drafting, and an array of sophisticated photo editing tools. All these go a long way in enhancing user experience by offering seamless assistance powered by advanced AI technology.
The Galaxy AI feature, already a staple in the newly revealed Galaxy S24 series, will soon extend to other models via the One UI 6.1 update. Despite the Samsung Galaxy S22 not being a recipient of the Galaxy AI, Samsung has announced aims to extend this feature to over 100 million Galaxy users by the year 2024. This indicates a future broadening of access to many more users.
Samsung’s integration of Google’s ‘Gemini‘ model in its devices, thanks to its partnership with Google, has facilitated advanced features such as Circle to Search. It also fuels a host of other applications, like Samsung Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard, enhancing summarization and writing capabilities.
Additional AI-driven features are incorporated into the Galaxy S24 series’ camera functionality, equipping users with capabilities akin to professional photographers. With Generative Edit, users can conveniently edit out undesired elements from their photos or convert videos into slow-motion versions. Further, the AI can recommend tweaks and improvements in real-time as you line up your shot in the viewfinder.
However, this offering of superior AI features comes with a caveat. While Galaxy AI is currently a free feature, users of the Galaxy S24 series should anticipate a charge for the service starting in 2026. While the specific pricing details for the S23, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series were not included in the announcement, it’s safe to assume that free access to the Galaxy AI might not be a long-term certainty.
However, a close inspection of the details suggests that some AI features from the Galaxy S24 series may not be made available for previous generation models. Nonetheless, if you are currently using any of the preceding generations of the mentioned Samsung devices, you won’t have to wait too long to avail of the majority of the benefits that Galaxy AI offers.
