Earlier in the year, Tech giant Samsung introduced the world to its first foldable phone called the Galaxy Fold. The phone was unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked event taking place in San Francisco, California.
However couple of days later, there were reports that the phone developed a crease in the middle of the phone where it folds. One of the famous reports was by a YouTube user phoneoftime. Samsung countered by releasing a statement and a video that it conducted a rigorous Galaxy Fold’s folding test to make sure that the Galaxy Fold was ready to come to market.
But upon receiving more reports, it decided to go back in-house to sort out the issues and it even postponed the launch in China and other countries.
Finally early this month, the CEO of Samsung Electronics DJ Koh finally admitted that his company rushed the Galaxy Fold into production before its time.
Thankfully, the company has issued a statement that they have “made improvements to Galaxy Fold to ensure consumers have the best possible experience”.
According to the tech giant, “Samsung has taken the time to fully evaluate the product design, make necessary improvements and run rigorous tests to validate the changes we made.”
“These design and construction improvements include:
- The top protective layer of the Infinity Flex Display has been extended beyond the bezel, making it apparent that it is an integral part of the display structure and not meant to be removed.
- Galaxy Fold features additional reinforcements to better protect the device from external particles while maintaining its signature foldable experience:
- The top and bottom of the hinge area have been strengthened with newly added protection caps.
- Additional metal layers underneath the Infinity Flex Display have been included to reinforce the protection of the display.
- The space between the hinge and body of Galaxy Fold has been reduced.
Along with these improvements, Samsung has also been continuously working to improve the overall Galaxy Fold user experience, including optimizing more apps and services for its unique foldable UX.”
Samsung says it is conducting final product tests to make Galaxy Fold available to consumers starting from September in select markets. Full details will be made available, close to the launch date.
The price is still $1980.
