Starting today, Samsung will begin rolling out its One UI 4 software upgrade to customers who own the Samsung Galaxy S 21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra. In addition to additional theming choices, keyboard improvements, and privacy settings, the upgrade is built on this year’s Android 12 operating system, which was launched in public beta in September.
Any Android 12 user who has been keeping up with the recent Android updates should be familiar with the new features that will be included in the current version of Samsung’s software. In the first place, the operating system has been given a Material You makeover, which includes the ability to modify the operating system’s colour palette based on your chosen wallpaper, as well as updated widgets. You can now see how often apps ask for sensitive information from your phone, as well as whether the phone’s camera or microphone is active, thanks to a new Privacy Dashboard.
The One UI 4 update is currently only available for Samsung’s S21 series smartphones and tablets, but the company says it will be available “soon” on a variety of other Samsung devices, including older Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy A smartphones and tablets, as well as the company’s foldables and tablets.
The distribution of the update on these phones wasn’t specified, but a note that appeared in the Samsung Members app earlier today in Korea provides a better indication of when the upgrade will be made available to customers. The Z Flip 3, Z Fold 3, S20 series, Note 20 series, Z Fold 2, and Z Flip 5G may receive One UI 4 updates in December, according to this tweet, which was quickly deleted. Samsung’s tablets, starting with the Tab S7 and S7 Plus, could get the upgrade in February, while older foldables, Note 10 and S10 devices, may get it in January.
