Samsung Launches App SeeColours To Make TV Enjoyable for the Colour Blind

Samsung has launched an application SeeColours that changes the way people with Color Vision Deficiency (colour blindness) watch Television. The app will provide people with vision deficiencies with relatively accurate colour renditions.

Through the SeeColors app, users can test their visual color spectrum, and based on their unique diagnosis their QLED TV will adjust settings to give a more accurate color display.

The SeeColors app, developed by Samsung and Hungary-based Colorlite, conducts colour tests on users with an accuracy of around 90 per cent, and customises screens to deliver more vivid and accurate viewing experiences.

Samsung has adopted the Colorlite Test which lets people with CVD themselves diagnose their level and type of deficiency.

The “C-Test” is actually performed on a compatible Android-based Samsung Galaxy phone using the SeeColors app. It uses color filters and mathematical modeling to approximate a person’s particular CVD situation. The mobile app then relays this information to a connected Samsung QLED Smart TV, with SeeColors also installed, in order to automatically calibrate the TV to compensate for the colors that the CVD person is unable to distinguish. The end results, in theory, is that the color blind user will see colors in the right places and combinations as if he or she weren’t color blind at all.

Some 300 million people around the world have CVD, but according to Samsung the majority are unaware of their condition, so the app could make TV-viewing a richer experience for those who’ve been watching just fine for years

The tech giant released the service in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria earlier this year, while the global release started yesterday.

The SeeColors app is available for download from the Smart TV App store. Users can diagnose themselves even with the help of their Samsung Galaxy smartphones. in this case, they can download the app from Google Play and the Galaxy App Store. After diagnosing themselves, users only need to connect their smartphone to their QLED TV in order for it to make the necessary color adjustments.
