This is the third generation of the GALAXY Note family. It is a category of phone that was created and made popular by Samsung. There was the Note I and the Note II. With every iteration of the device, it gets thinner and faster.
There’s a stylus that ships with the GALAXY Note 3. The Note II equally shipped with a Sylus—S Pen. This time around, the S-Pen can do much more than it can do in the Note II. The S-Pen will equip users with rich note taking experiences. A simple click on the S Pen button while hovering over the device screen is going to introduce users to Air Command, a palette of five powerful features that make tasks easier and faster to accomplish. I remember this was the question that was asked from one of the three winners of the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 during the launch.

The Samsung GALAXY Gear was also unveiled along with the Note 3. This is Samsung working hard to own almost every space. One could say Samsung is joining anew category of smart wearable devices here. A category that has already been trailed by a log other tech companies like Nike (Nike Fuel band), Pebble (Pebble Watch), Fitbit (Fitbit One, Fitbit Flex) and a host of other companies.
Just as the other wearable devices can tell the time and help one keep fit, the Samsung Gear can also do all that plus more. You can use the Gear to monitor your steps—it has a built in pedometer. You will be required to input your weight, height and some other details. In addition to being able to do that, the Gear has a microphone and a camera. What this means is that, you can shoot photographs with its 1.9 megapixel cam and make/receive phone calls too. To be able to receive phone calls, you’ll need to connect the GALAXY Gear to the GALAXY Note 3. At launch, only the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 can be paired with the Gear. But information that reached me thereafter from a reliable source has it that the users of the Samsung GALAXY S4 will be able to use the Gear with their phone. To do that, they’ll have to update the OS on the Samsung GALAXY S4 to 4.3 and grab a specific app from the Samsung App Store and voila, they’ll be good to go.
I’ve got a Samsung GALAXY Note with me and I can confirm that on moderate use, I got 23hours from the battery. The GALAXY Note family has a reputation of having excellent battery performance. I am not entirely surprised.
As smartphones start to mature in Operating System and features, we have been seeing only incremental changes. Some of these changes are not huge enough to necessitate consumers from upgrading their current smartphone to the newly released ones. Given this scenario, it will be interesting to watch how many Samsung GALAXY Note 3 will be sold in the first month and in the first three month of it being released globally.
