Samsung Changes the Refresh Rate Spec for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus

Samsung has quietly revised the spec sheet for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, following the unveiling of the Galaxy S22 series last week. Initially, the firm claimed that each of these devices supported 10-120Hz variable refresh rates, leading us to believe that they were equipped with LTPO panels. However, according to an updated spec sheet on Samsung’s website, the devices will have a variable refresh rate of 48–120Hz, similar to the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus from last year.

Ross Young, the CEO of DSCC, was the first to point out this development, revealing that the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus are equipped with LTPS panels that support a variable refresh rate of 48–120 Hz.

Here’s why Samsung first mentioned 10-120Hz variable refresh rate functionality for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus:

Samsung’s LTPS panels on the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus have reportedly reached refresh rates of less than 48Hz in some tests. As a result, even though the production models don’t support 10-120Hz variable refresh rates, Samsung probably used the lower variable refresh rate figures in its initial marketing material. The spec sheet on Samsung’s website has since been updated to reflect the correct 48-120Hz refresh rate statistics. We’ve reached out to Samsung for comment, but the firm hasn’t yet provided any information.

Now that Samsung has updated the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus spec sheets to show that the devices can run at 48–120Hz, it’s clear that the regular Galaxy S22 doesn’t have a lot of new screen features compared to the Galaxy S21 from last year. A peak brightness of 1,750 nits makes the Galaxy S22 Plus a little brighter than the Galaxy S21 Plus. For people who didn’t know, the Galaxy S21 Plus had a brightness level of 1300 nits.

As a side note, the Galaxy S22 Ultra does have an LTPO screen, unlike the other two models, which don’t. In fact, it has an LTPO 2.0 panel, which lets you change the refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. That’s a big change from the LTPO panel on its predecessor, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which had a 10-120Hz variable refresh rate.
