The South African legal Technology Network aims to usher in technology into the legal sector in South Africa and act as a ‘voice’ for local legal tech startups. Founded by Catherine-Jane Paulse and Yusha Davidson, the SALT Network was born out of the growing number of South African legal tech startups.

The duo are also founders of the Cygad group which is home to two innovative legal tech startups; LegalLens and BriefCo. According to reports, tech has been a slow adoption in the legal industry in South Africa and aims to accelerate this process with its network.

Paulse provides insights into the aims of the SALT Network.

“The SALT Network aims to connect all South Africans working or interested in law, technology, innovation and the intersection thereof. Law students, legal academics, attorneys, advocates, and-inhouse counsel are given a platform to showcase their research and gain further insight in law, tech and innovation.”

The network will enable legal tech startups to have the platform and opportunity to showcase their innovative solutions and connect with possible customers and funders. According to reports, the SALT Network has garnered success within the legal industry and Davidson attributes this to the growing interest in tech within the legal industry.

“Since the inception of the SALT Network in February 2020, over 1400 people have joined the network housed on LinkedIn.” The network releases weekly content in the form of videos and articles regarding legal tech. In addition, once a month SALT hosts webinars, training sessions, live debates, round-table discussions and pitch events.

The SALT Network recently prepared an infographic of the legaltech startups founded in South Africa. “The legal industry is ripe for disruption, and the innovation demonstrated by the existing legaltech startups is evidence that the disruption has only just begun,” explains the SALT Network.

Interested local legal tech startups or aspiring startups can join the SALT Network here.
