Omoyele Sowore, Founder of online newspaper Sahara Reporters, has set up a GoFundMe account to raise $2 million for his campaign to be the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2019
The GoFundMe page titled “Take Back Nigeria Movement!” gives the reasons for the fundraising initiative.
“For 58 years, Nigeria has been ruled by misfits. Successive leaders, military and civilian have, since 1970, destroyed and decimated Nigeria. These visionless and corrupt leaders have left the world’s most populous black nation in tatters.
As a result, it is one of the nations with the highest number of poor people today.
With your help, we can break this jinx in 2019 and give Nigeria the revolutionary politics that will send these leaders into permanent retirement. Your support can bring forth a new set of patriotic and conscientious leaders that will create the Nigeria that we all long for.
I, Omoyele Sowore, intend to lead this charge with your backing and a simple challenge: 10,000 people donate $200 each.
Let’s say a permanent goodbye to the politics of Godfathers, Godmothers, Godsons, and Goddaughters.
Let us make history together.”
As at the time of writing this article, 22 people have donated $2,268 in 13 hours of setting up the account.
He revealed his intention to run for presidential elections in 2019 some days ago on the Sahara Reporters website
He is in talks with some political parties, as he plans to launch on the platform of a coalition of several parties.
