Cape town-based tech startup Aurora Sustainability which aims to help organizations reduce their carbon footprint through its tools, and recommendations, is fostering sustainability among individuals and organisations around the globe with its innovative platform that calculates an individual’s carbon footprint via its sustainability quiz. The green-thinking tech startup claims to have helped the average individual lower its carbon footprint by 28kg of Carbon Dioxide in merely one week.
Aurora Sustainability
Founded less than two years ago, Aurora Sustainability reportedly has 35, 000 users, across the US, UK, Norway, and South Africa as it works towards establishing its authority in the sustainability space. Sustainability and ensuring the livelihood of the planet has become a focal point for many individuals across the globe, with temperatures and Carbon Dixpiside output rising each year, Aurora Sustainability aims to play a pivotal role in fostering sustainable practices.
In a press release, Danielle Laity, founder of Aurora Sustainability explains that the tech startup aims to tackle the problem of lack of education amongst individuals on how to decrease their impact on the environment.
“Over the past few months, we have been adapting and growing our platform to provide a seamless user experience that adds value to the lives of our users. We have been able to help the average person lower their footprint by 28kg of CO2 a week. Across our 35 000 users, that’s over 50 000 tons of CO2 or the equivalent of 83333 loads of washing and 23 8095 km travelled in an Uber.”
Aurora for Organisations
The tech startup strongly believes in the actions of the collective. Although large corporations are responsible for a large output of harmful emissions, Laitey points out that individuals have the purchasing power and can influence corporations regulation policies. “We believe in the power of collective impact and even though it may feel overwhelming at first, once we realise our power it is almost liberating.”
With this in mind, the tech startup has recently launched a new offering titled Aurora for Organisations. Providing accurate information on the companies output in Carbon emissions, the quiz is able to help organizations develop company-wide initiatives to lower their existing footprint.
“A tool like Aurora adheres to ‘Scope 3’ of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocols international standards and frameworks for managing emissions. It also aligns with goals 12 & 13 outlined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” adds Laity.
