SA recycling startup Regenize secures strategic investment from E Squared

South African startup Regenize, a pioneer in zero-waste solutions and inclusive recycling systems, has received an undisclosed investment from E Squared Investments, marking the firm’s first venture philanthropy transaction under its newly launched impact strategy.

Founded with a mission to make recycling more accessible and equitable, Regenize has built a community-driven, decentralised recycling model that integrates informal waste collectors into the formal economy. The company operates a growing network of localised recycling hubs, offering free recycling services to over 26,000 households while creating dignified employment opportunities in underserved communities.

This investment marks a significant milestone for both Regenize and E Squared. It is the first deployment under E Squared’s venture philanthropy strategy—a hybrid model that combines the rigor of venture capital with the intent of philanthropy, offering patient, high-engagement capital to social enterprises tackling systemic challenges.

In a statement, Chad Robertson, CEO and co-founder of Regenize, emphasized:

Over the past few years, Regenize has been dedicated to building a recycling solution that works for South Africa—one that makes recycling accessible while integrating the informal waste sector through our carbon-positive, decentralised recycling methodology.

It’s rare to find investors who understand both the business and social impact side of what we do. From the very first conversation, E Squared recognised the power of our decentralised model and the value of integrating informal waste workers. Their commitment has been more than financial—it’s been deeply strategic.

The funding will enable Regenize to scale its national footprint, expand its network of recycling hubs, and create over 180 new jobs in the green economy. The company’s model not only diverts waste from landfills but also empowers communities through education, employment, and environmental stewardship.

Thato Ntseare, Investment Manager at ESquared, stated:

At E Squared, we see our role as not just investing in social enterprises but also pioneering innovative financing models. By deploying patient capital, we’re able to take on higher risks, which allows us to lead in creating solutions to societal challenges.

This approach also offers other investors the confidence to join us in tackling these issues. We view our capital as catalytic—enabling social enterprises to thrive and creating an ecosystem where innovation and impact can flourish through venture philanthropy.

With this partnership, Regenize is poised to deepen its impact, proving that scalable, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable solutions can thrive when backed by mission-aligned capital.
