E-ticketing is set to be used for sports for the first time in Rwanda, even though e-ticketing system is already being used in the transport sector to book seats.
The Country’s football body has announced that tickets will be sold through the E-ticketing system when the Rwandan national soccer team Amavubi plays the Black Stars of Ghana in an AFCON 2017 qualifying match on September 5 at Amahoro stadium.
The purpose of deploying the electronic system is to reduce fraud, long queues and tax evasion.
“We have signed a two-year contract with IT ticketing company Innovys,” said Emmanuel Bugingo, the director of sports in Minispoc. “It will not only validate tax revenues but also eliminate illegal tickets. It will also help us assess the entry capacity to stadiums during international or league games.”
Although there are plans to extend the service across all stadiums, initially, the system will only be used for games at Amahoro stadium.
Blaise Muganza, the Innovys product manager, explained they have been in the E-ticketing business for the last four years.
“This new service platform in the sport industry will save time; every customer will be able to buy a ticket and select their seat without delay and from different selling points that will be announced before the game,” he said. “With this system we will stamp out the practice of counterfeiting and duplicating tickets during entrance since it will involve scanning the ticket at point of entry.”
