Rwanda has announced its plans to build Kigali Innovation City, which will be located in Kigali’s Special Economic Zone.

The announcement was made at the Africa Investment Forum Event which took place in South Africa earlier this November.

The innovation city will be home to tech companies, top tier universities, biotech firms, retail and commercial real estate.

Rwanda’s government expects the project to generate north of 50,000 jobs annually. It also expects the city to cultivate a critical mass of talent, research and innovative ideas.

The project, which is estimated to cost USD 2 Billion, is part of Rwanda’s Vision 2020 development program and National Strategy for Transformation 2017-2024.

In addition to that, the project should have a positive impact on Pan-African human and economic development.

This immense construction project will be achieved through a partnership between the government of Rwanda, Africa50 and other African states.
