Riders can now call to order an Uber in Nairobi

Popular ride-hailing service, Uber, is continuously innovating in order to undercut its competition.

For users who may not be able to access the Uber app, the company is now providing a “Call for Ride” option.

This option allows a user to make a phone call to Uber’s toll free line 0800 722 000, to order an uberChapChap or UberX.

The call to order option widens Uber’s user base by opening up the platform to riders without a proper internet connection, or without smartphones at all.

The toll free number will allow the user to cancel a trip or communicate with their 24hour a day customer care service.

    How does it work?

The user calls the toll free number, and is answered by an agent. An Uber account will be created for the caller, should they not have one. The caller shares their precise location and intended destination. The agent generates a fare estimate. The caller will then cancel or confirm the trip and the agent will order them a ride.

The rider will receive a text message with details about the vehicles license plate, the drivers name and  contact details, and a url link which the rider can share and use to follow their route.

Payment will be made in cash once the rider arrives at their destination.

This new additional service is certain to increase the company’s income, as well as boost usage and increase the number of users.

Uber also offers Uber Lite, which requires low storage and little internet connectivity to work.
