The inaugural program of the RevUp Women Initiative concluded with a grand business showcase, where 10 female entrepreneurs hailing from various African nations were each awarded a grant of US$10,000, summing up to a total of US$100,000.

RevUp Women is an initiative which aims to uplift women entrepreneurs across Africa by equipping them with necessary resources, mentorship, and training. Their work is focused on enabling women to establish and expand thriving businesses, hence contributing significantly to economic growth while also furthering the cause of gender equality.

The business showcase was a collaborative effort between AfriLabs and the Visa Foundation, and had the main highlight of an award ceremony.

The 10 winners were chosen after an extensive selection process and were announced during this ceremony. The entrepreneurs who received the grants hailed from different countries. These included Baby Grubz and Queen Amina Medical Integration from Nigeria, Ecokud and Ziada from Kenya, WaziEats and V’s VitaLife from Cameroon, Mali Food and P.aktion from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ndiqala from South Africa.

Nanko Madu, the director of programs at AfriLabs, underscored the importance of investing in women. She stressed that it wasn’t just a question of morality but was a strategic choice with extensive economic benefits. In aiming for inclusive growth, the recognition and utilization of women as key catalysts of economic development are crucial.
