Reddit released its own official apps for both iOS and Android. The iPhone version will replace Reddit’s Alien Blue app which the site made its official mobile client. The app is currently available in the Australia, Canada, the Uk and the US, luckily, I have a US iTunes account, so I’ll be getting to use this app and compare it to Alien Blue.
Alien Blue, has been the official Reddit app for 18 months but it’s been removed from the iOS App Store, the paid iPad version is available on the App store until Reddit develops its own tablet app… but what about those who paid for the iPhone version of Alien Blue? Well, if you still prefer the Alien Blue client, you can keep using it as long as it’s still installed on your device.
Reddit’s apps have been in beta for months now, with the Android beta released in January and iOS since March but there’s plans on making both official apps available in more countries over the following months.
“We felt an obligation to deliver a Reddit experience to our core users — the people who love Reddit and can’t live without it,”
Reddit hopes the apps will give people a fresh way to use the site, especially those who are really used to the desktop experience, and is also offering users who download its apps within the first week a free trial of Reddit’s ad-free gold membership.
Head over to the App Store and Play Store to download both apps.
