Reddit Launch New Comment Search Tool

For most of us, Google is our go-to resource for problem-solving. Advice is simply a few clicks away, whether we’re undertaking house repairs without much knowledge or trying to fix an odd software bug on your phone. Of course, you might find better advice in the comments section of a Reddit discussion about a similar problem these days. Browsing through Reddit results is nothing new, but the site hopes to make it easier to find important information right from the comments themselves with some upgrades to their search engine.

    Reddit new Comment Search

Anyone on Reddit may now search through comments rather than needing to trawl through thread after thread for a solution, as the business said in a blog post. It’ll be available on desktop today, albeit it won’t be available to old.reddit.com users. Anyone else can test it out by going to Reddit and searching for specific terms, then selecting the “Comments” icon at the top of the page.

    Reddit explained that:

“With this new capability, users looking for particular discussions or comments on Reddit no longer need to click on several posts and then scroll through what can sometimes be thousands of comments to find threads that are relevant to them. The new feature solves this problem and quickly gives redditors the ability to comment search directly and further refine their searches by searching for comments within specific communities.”

You may either browse the entire Reddit or check through individual subreddits for more direct results, just as with conventional search results. Unfortunately, there is one major drawback: you can’t filter results like you would with ordinary search queries, so selecting top comments or sorting within a specified time window doesn’t appear to be an option.

Nonetheless, it’s a useful feature that people should embrace. According to a survey conducted by Reddit last year, it was the most desired search-related tool by Redditors, with the initial test results deemed a huge success. With any luck, it won’t be long before these new tools are available for use on all devices, including smartphones.
