Reddit Expands AI-Powered Search to Five Global Languages

    0
By Jessica Adiele on October 17, 2025 Artificial Intelligence

Reddit is broadening its artificial intelligence (AI)-driven search capabilities, announcing the global expansion of its AI-powered search experience to five new languages — French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. The update allows users in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy to enjoy a more natural, conversational search experience powered by AI.

This rollout marks a major step in Reddit’s ongoing effort to make its platform more accessible and intuitive for international audiences. Users who have set one of the supported languages as their default can now chat directly with Reddit’s AI in a question-and-answer (Q&A) format, allowing them to quickly find insights, opinions, and information from Reddit’s massive library of community discussions. The feature uses a Google AI model to generate accurate and contextually rich responses.

Initially launched in 2024, Reddit Answers was designed to sit alongside the platform’s traditional search bar, helping users discover relevant content faster. Rather than sifting through multiple posts, users can pose a question and receive a concise answer that includes direct references from popular Reddit threads.

In August, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman revealed that the platform’s search features now attract over 70 million weekly users, with Reddit Answers drawing more than 6 million active users. Huffman also shared plans to merge the AI-powered and traditional search tools, creating a unified experience that balances speed, accuracy, and transparency.

The move follows a wider industry trend toward AI-driven, conversational search experiences. Platforms like Google, Brave, and Perplexity are reimagining how users find and consume information online — integrating chat-style interfaces, context-aware answers, and generative summaries. Reddit’s approach leverages its unique advantage: an active community base that fuels authentic, human-centered discussions, now enhanced with AI intelligence.

As Reddit continues to evolve, the expansion of its AI search capabilities not only reinforces its position as a leading hub for real-world insights but also signals its ambitions to compete in the growing space of AI-enhanced web discovery.
