Before Apple’s WWDC, rumours of Apple launching iMessage on Android hit the internet really hard, making Android fans who have been waiting for Apple to bring its instant messaging app over to Android believe that would’ve happened. Well, it’s clear that won’t be happening anytime soon, according to Apple executives at WWDC. Despite rumours, Apple revealed that it has some good reasons to keep iMessage as an iOS exclusive feature. According to reports from Cult Of Mac, we were given two key reasons why Android users won’t be getting iMessage.
“Apple considers its own user base of 1 billion active devices to provide a large enough data set for any possible AI learning the company is working on. And, second, having a superior messaging platform that only worked on Apple devices would help sales of those devices”
Perhaps Android users were expecting what happened with BBM by Blackberry to take place with iMessage but Apple is smart enough to know that once iMessage gets on Android, it might affect the sales of their devices, though, this isn’t the first time Apple has launched their apps on Android. The company launched an Apple Music app for Android last year and a dedicated app moving Android users to iOS and they’re both available on the Google Play Store.
If you missed out on the keynote where Apple showed off a whole low of new features heading to their operating systems, click here to see everything announced at the WWDC keynote earlier this week but if you’ll rather want to get a full look at the event, there’s a video for that below but mind you, it’s two hours long and if you’ve got limited data, I won’t advice you to watch video but if not, go right ahead and enjoy the keynote.
