Viettel and Qualcomm have partnered to deliver state-of-the-art 5G infrastructure globally. The companies have also completed the first versions of Viettel’s 5G Distributed Unit (DU) and Radio Unit (RU) based on the Qualcomm X100 5G RAN Accelerator Card and Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN Platform, respectively.
Viettel High Technology at MWC Barcelona 2023 unveiled prototypes of their DU and RU, powered by Qualcomm 5G RAN Platforms, adding to their comprehensive product portfolio including the Core Network and OCS System. These new O-RAN compatible products boast leading energy efficiency with an exceptional performance featuring mmWave to massive MIMO, 64T64R capabilities to 4T4R radios, integrated 300 Gbps Ethernet interface, and support for advanced features such as Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). With these breakthrough capabilities, the new solutions will help to simplify network deployment at scale, lower total cost of ownership (TCO), and enable mobile network operators and enterprises to fully realize and monetize their digital transformation.
“As both an operator and original equipment manufacturer (OEM), we have a distinct advantage in utilizing commercial networks to foster the development and deployment of 5G Open RAN network elements,” said Mr Nguyen Vu Ha, chief executive officer, Viettel High Technology. “Combining our diverse experience with Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G expertise will help to accelerate the commercialization of Viettel’s 5G solutions at a massive scale.”
“We aim to continuously push the envelope of innovation to provide our partners with the most advanced technology in the industry to serve their customers well and offer premium 5G experiences to consumers,” said Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager, cellular modems and infrastructure, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Through the introduction of commercial-grade Open RAN products alongside Viettel, we will help ease deployment for global operators and further deliver on the next-generation of modern networks.”
Trial availability of Viettel’s DU and RU units, powered by Qualcomm X100 5G RAN Accelerator Card and Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN Platform, are expected in the second quarter of 2023 and commercial launch is expected in the fourth quarter of 2023, thus marking an important step in Viettel and Qualcomm Technologies’ collaboration to bring cutting-edge 5G technology to the world.
