Thanks to a groundbreaking collaboration between Qualcomm and Google, car manufacturers will soon have the capability to craft bespoke AI voice assistants for their vehicles. Qualcomm revealed earlier that it is joining forces with Google to create a novel AI development platform specifically for automakers.
This innovative platform is built upon the Android Automotive OS (AAOS), which is Google’s operating system designed for in-car infotainment. Leveraging Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis, along with Google Cloud and AAOS, the partnership aims to produce new AI-driven digital cockpit experiences in vehicles. Additionally, Qualcomm has introduced two advanced chips to enhance automotive systems: the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite for dashboard functionalities and the Snapdragon Ride Elite for autonomous driving capabilities.
The forthcoming interface will enable drivers and passengers to engage with tailored voice assistants, dynamic maps, and live updates while driving. This system empowers carmakers to design distinctive, brand-specific AI voice assistants that operate independently of smartphone connections.
Other automotive companies have also ventured into incorporating AI systems into their vehicles. For instance, at CES 2024, Volkswagen unveiled its intention to integrate ChatGPT into the voice assistant systems of its newer car models. Although adoption was initially slow, AAOS is now the foundation for vehicles from a variety of manufacturers, including Chevrolet, Honda, Volvo, and Rivian.
