Ringier Africa Digital Publishing owners of online news site pulse.ng and pulse buzz app has been announced as one of the winners of the Google news innovation challenge.
The Google news innovation challenge(GNI) is an effort by Google to work with the news industry to help journalism thrive in the digital age to drive digital innovation and develop new business models.
The Google Middle East, Turkey and Africa Innovation Challenge was launched last June and received 527 applications from 35 countries.
After a rigorous review, a round of interviews and a final jury selection process, 21 projects were selected from 13 countries to receive $1.93 million in funding.
Among these 21 startups is pulse.ng by Ringier Africa Digital Publishing, other winners are Nas News from Iraq, The National from UAE, Demirören Teknoloji Anonim Şirketi from turkey, ASSOCIATION 3535 from Côte d’Ivoire, Apex Admedia ltd, GhanaWeb BV from Ghana, The New Times from Rwanda, TelQuel Digital from Morocco, Al Bawaba News Ltd form Jordan, The Daily Maverick (Pty) Limited from South Africa
