In a significant move to solidify its position as a global tech powerhouse, Prosus, the international investment arm of Naspers, has entered into a strategic three-year global partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This alliance is designed to accelerate the integration and scaling of artificial intelligence (AI) across Prosus’s vast portfolio of digital companies spanning Latin America, Europe, and India.
By leveraging AWS’s world-class cloud infrastructure and specialized machine learning suites, Prosus aims to transform its diverse ecosystem into an AI-first network.
The partnership provides high-level access to AWS resources for several of the most recognizable brands in the Prosus stable, including:
- Food & Grocery: iFood, Just Eat Takeaway.com
- Classifieds: OLX
- Fintech: PayU
- Travel & E-commerce: Despegar, eMag
The agreement draws inspiration from the successful deployment of iFood’s “Large Commerce Model.” As Brazil’s dominant food delivery platform, handling approximately 180 million orders monthly, iFood has successfully utilized an agentic AI system.
This system moves beyond simple algorithms to act as an intelligent agent that learns from customer behavior in real-time, refining search results and personalization to enhance user discovery. The new partnership seeks to replicate this “agentic” success across other industries and regions.
Under the terms of the deal, AWS will provide dedicated engineering expertise and portfolio-wide access to its AI services. The collaboration is structured around five strategic objectives:
- Generative AI Innovation: Rapidly developing and deploying new products powered by LLMs (Large Language Models).
- System Resilience: Enhancing the reliability and “uptime” of high-traffic digital platforms.
- Advanced Security: Strengthening cybersecurity frameworks to protect massive datasets.
- Cost Optimization (FinOps): Implementing Financial Operations practices to ensure AI scaling remains cost-effective within the cloud.
- Standardized Templates: Creating “plug-and-play” technology blueprints that can be shared and reused across different portfolio companies to avoid reinventing the wheel.
Prosus isn’t just experimenting; it is deploying AI at a massive scale. The group currently serves over 500 million customers and manages hundreds of millions of daily interactions. This immense volume of data provides the “fuel” necessary to train and sustain sophisticated AI models.
AWS’s Perspective: For Amazon, this deal serves as a benchmark for how modern commerce platforms are evolving. It underscores a shift where AI is no longer a “feature” but the fundamental architecture used to reshape the customer journey in high-growth digital markets.
