Global consumer internet group Prosus, headquartered in Amsterdam and majority-owned by South Africa’s Naspers, announced on Friday that its online marketplace OLX will acquire French automotive classifieds platform La Centrale for €1.1 billion (approximately R22.4 billion).
This strategic acquisition marks a significant move by Prosus to expand its footprint in the European e-commerce and automotive sectors. La Centrale, a well-established player in France’s digital car sales market, will provide OLX with a strong entry point into the region’s automotive classifieds space.
Prosus, which focuses on food delivery, online retail, and digital marketplaces, reported a 54% increase in adjusted core earnings from its e-commerce operations in August, reflecting strong growth momentum across its portfolio.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Prosus CEO Fabricio Bloisi emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and regional investment: “I expect to invest more in AI technology in France,” Bloisi said, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing user experience and operational efficiency across Prosus platforms.
The acquisition of La Centrale is expected to complement Prosus’s planned purchase of Just Eat Takeaway, a major European meal delivery company, further solidifying its presence in the continent’s digital economy. Prosus anticipates that the deal will be finalized by the end of the year, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
