American Tower Company and ProFuturo have expanded their partnership to Nigeria, marking a crucial step in bridging the educational digital divide among African youth. This landmark digital inclusion initiative aims to enhance the educational environment for 30,000 students across Africa and Latin America.
The collaboration, which initially began in Kenya earlier this year, has demonstrated its effectiveness in leveraging technology to improve educational outcomes. The expansion into Nigeria represents a significant milestone in their joint mission to deliver quality digital education and innovative teaching practices to underserved communities.
American Tower, a global leader in digital communications infrastructure, and ProFuturo, a digital education initiative, are both committed to fostering digital communities. Their partnership aims to enrich the educational experience by providing both students and over 1,000 teachers with the necessary tools for effective digital learning.
Mneesha Nahata, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of American Tower Company, underscored the importance of the partnership;
We are deeply proud to strengthen our commitment to bring educational innovation through our Digital Communities program. This collaboration reflects our dedication to empowering thousands of students and teachers, ensuring they have the tools to transform their futures.
Magdalena Brier, Managing Director of ProFuturo, also emphasized the significance of such alliances in promoting digital inclusion. “Education with technology has enormous potential to help reduce the educational gap, bringing high-quality content to environments that often lack access,” she said.
Brier noted that the alliance is not only focused on improving student outcomes but also on fostering a robust international network of educators who can share knowledge and best practices. She highlighted that the program’s impact is expected to extend beyond immediate educational benefits, creating a foundation for lasting change and progress.
Suzette Victor, Director of Sustainability for American Tower Company Africa, emphasized the partnership’s vital role in addressing the educational needs of underserved communities. “Closing the digital divide is crucial to ensuring that no one is left behind. This expansion to Nigeria will lay the groundwork for a future where every child has the opportunity to succeed,” she stated.
