President Muhamadu Buhari has approved the free registration of business names with the Corporate Affairs Commission.  The gesture from the federal government will cover 250,000 MSMEs across the country.

This was announced in a tweet on Tuesday evening by the Media aide to the President, Bashir Ahmad.

The tweet reads, “President Buhari has approved free business names’ registration for 250k MSMEs nationwide; according to the CAC, 6,606 names in each of the 34 states, Abuja will have 7,906, Lagos 9,084 & Kano 8,406.

“The free registration commences today, visit http://cac.gov.ng for details” he added.

Earlier this month, the CAC had announced it would commence the registration of companies within 48 hours, approve names the same day, and ensure 5-day completion for other post-incorporation services not available electronically.

The latest gesture is seen as a response by the government to the demands and needs of the Nigerian youths behind the #EndSARS protests.

Also, free business registration will help a lot of businesses that cannot afford the registration fee get registered.
