Mr. Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, a veteran broadcaster will now take his place as the new Director-General of the commission.

Before his sack, Mr. Idachaba was appointed acting Director-General of the commission replacing Modibbo Kawu who was suspended for alleged financial impropriety in February 2020.

Mr. Ilelah appointment’s appointment was confirmed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who announced the appointment in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.

He said Mr. Ilelah’s appointment is for a tenure of five years in the first instance.

The sack comes amid an attempt by the commission to censor social media and the reportage of broadcast media organizations.

The Federal Government had banned the use of Twitter in the country with threats to prosecute those using the platform after the ban.

Consequently, NBC had also ordered local broadcast houses to deactivate their Twitter handles.
