As part of plans for the evolution of the state government into an eGovernment, the Plateau State government has launched a programme dubbed ‘code plateau’ to create a digital workforce.
The Code Plateau programme is specially designed for young people seeking to pursue their career in Information Technology. The eight months of full-time immersive Software Development Bootcamp also targets young graduates who are seeking to grow and desire exposure for local and global opportunities.
According to Itedgenews, the ‘Code Plateau’ programme is part of a larger framework for digital inclusion and skill-building within the Silicon Plateau initiative by Governor Simon Lalong to rework the state’s economy to leverage global IT opportunities. Silicon Plateau is the aggregate of all the ideas and value chain relating to ICT development in Plateau State and is being incubated by the Plateau State ICT Development Agency (PICTDA).
Speaking on the launch, the Director-General of PICTDA, Mr. David Daser. Said, “The flagship of the Silicon Plateau Project is Code Plateau and within eight months, we hope to offer an immersive job placement training for software development.
“The fellowship is a full-time Immersive Boot camp that is designed for young people. PICTDA would grant the fellows a collaborative learning environment with all-around support from technical to industry job readiness.
“As Human Capital Development is one of the key focus areas of the rescue administration, the Plateau State government through the PICTDA has initiated the Code Plateau as a platform for re-skilling our youths who are interested in kick-starting their careers in IT and preparing them for the job market.”
Daser also said, “fellows at the end of the Programme can expect to be able to build impressive, portfolio-ready projects that will demonstrate their ability to add value to their next or new job as great software engineers, therefore, this intensive program is for those who are committed to having tangible, job-ready skills upon graduation.”
In its drive to push the framework for the state’s ICT agenda as well as retooling the state’s large population of young people to become functional in the21st-century borderless economy, the state government last year through an Act of Parliament set up the ICT agency.
“PICTDA has prepared a world-class curriculum to prepare our youths for the global competitive IT job market. The first half (3-months) of the fellowship based on this curriculum is described as “Floating Surface” because of how much information it packs in. In the second half (3-Months) called “Diving Deep”, you use your new skills to build projects, while learning new technologies on the fly. “By the end, you will be an autonomous engineer, capable of tackling unique unfamiliar problems and building complex applications. The last two months would be internship placements of fellows across tech companies within Nigeria. This is to give the required on-the-job experience in tech companies to finally prepare our fellows for Job placements,” added Daser.
