Thousands of Lagos state residents will soon have reasons to smile as a non-profit organization, Pink Food Bank has launched an initiative called “Wonder Box” to provide a free box of foodstuff to low-income retirees, widows, and households in the state.
The project coordinator, Femi Fidodo stated that the program will assist people to reduce the impact of the hike in food prices being experienced in the country.
He said, “according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the inflation in Nigeria has increased to an all-time high at 17.33 percent. This influences the hike in food price and becoming almost unaffordable for the middle class and the poor. This is the reason why we are reaching out to this set of people.”
He further said that the majority of Nigerians within the working-age group are either underemployed or unemployed which causes their inability to attain their basic needs. This initiative will provide for thousands of vulnerable and poor Lagosians.
Fidodo stated that his organization aim at reaching around 100,000 which comprises individuals and families residing in Lagos with the project planned to run for three months.
Commenting on previous projects, the coordinator said the Pink Food Bank had taken on other projects like the women in the business program, women empowerment initiative, feeding the kids, food drive for the handicapped, and more stating that these programs are all shown on their social media handles.
Fidodo advised the government on the current state of food hike to be emphatic towards the plight of the citizens while making policies as they bear the consequences of most decisions.
He advised the government and its agencies to create and implement policies that will benefit the common man.
