A massive data centre construction project is being undertaken by Saudi Arabia’s top digital company, stc, just after successfully completing the first two phases.
It will provide world-class seamless data distribution with energy optimisation solutions, which will be aligned with the Kingdom’s environmental sustainability goals. The new phase of creating next-generation cloud-enabled Data Centers will include extending presence and capacity, as well as speeding execution of the Kingdom’s digital transformation objectives.
With a focus on capacity, functionality, operational integrity, and overall efficiency, the investment demonstrates stc’s leadership position in digital transformation across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In the following phase, stc will focus on enhancing “time to value”, “customer experience and self-service capabilities”, “new partnership models”, “focused on faster, smarter, and better services,” and other business-aspirational needs, among other things.
With Phase 1 completed in 2019 and Phase 2 currently in the final commissioning stage, stc is presently conducting Phase 3 of its new ERA Data Center Construction Project. In addition to the Tier III enhanced Data Centers, which have a planned maximum computing power of 125 megawatts and an allocated landscape area of more than 180,000 square metres, the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has a larger ambition and an overall strategy to provide the best in class digital and telecommunication services throughout the Kingdom.
Incorporating 8 concurrent projects across different zones within 6 cities, stc Data Centers initiative is the region’s largest programme of Data Center Construction. In cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, the programme will establish digital availability zones that will provide a full spectrum of services, as well as top-notch security and service management and asset safety measures.
In order to provide highly resilient infrastructure availability, stc is creating new Data Centers that contain a modular smart design that is fully Hyper-scaler compatible and incorporates a modular smart design. The latest networking technologies are used to provide resilient and seamless traffic flow across different technical facilities, as well as to maintain Business Continuity, on top of the excellence in design and construction already achieved.
All major cities in the Kingdom will benefit from the world-class data centres, which are part of the stc’s overarching aim to provide expanded digital and communications services across the country. With Phase 3 projected to be completed in 12 months and a total compute power capacity of 125 MW, as well as a broader aim for future growth, the construction programme for six locations is now underway. Phase 1 was completed in 2019 and Phase 2 is nearing completion.
