Paga to Fix Long-Standing PayPal Access Issues in Nigeria

Paga’s partnership with PayPal is set to transform cross-border payments for Nigerians, providing a regulated and seamless bridge to the global commerce ecosystem. While the announcement initially sparked mixed reactions, CEO Tayo Oviosu has clarified the company’s commitment to resolving historical PayPal challenges.

    Addressing Years of Frustration

For years, Nigerians have faced difficulties with PayPal due to account restrictions, blocked withdrawals, and limited access. This made it challenging for freelancers, SMEs, and individuals to participate fully in global commerce.

With the Paga integration, users can now link their PayPal accounts directly to their wallets. This enables instant withdrawals in Naira, payments for bills, shopping with international merchants, and transfers to local bank accounts.

“This partnership is about building a better path forward,” Oviosu said.

    Dedicated Support for Unresolved Issues

Paga has set up channels to assist users who previously encountered difficulties. Verified users (KYC Level 3) can reach out to paypalhelp@paga.com, with each case reviewed thoroughly.

Oviosu emphasized that the partnership balances security with accessibility, ensuring that users can engage with the world’s largest payment platform without unnecessary hurdles.

    Unlocking Global Commerce for Nigerians

The integration allows Nigeria’s 21 million Paga users to connect with over 400 million PayPal users worldwide. Freelancers on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr, online sellers shipping products internationally, and businesses expanding globally can now transact more efficiently.

By combining Paga’s wallet infrastructure and API systems with PayPal’s global network, the partnership provides a technical foundation for large-scale, compliant, cross-border payments.

“Nigerians can now fully tap into global commerce through a locally regulated platform,” Oviosu said.

A Step Toward a More Connected Digital Economy

This collaboration reflects careful planning and recognition of Nigeria’s growing digital economy. By clearing access roadblocks, Paga is enabling more Nigerians to participate in international transactions with fewer delays and limitations.

With dedicated support for past issues and a regulated framework for ongoing operations, the Paga-PayPal partnership represents a major milestone in expanding financial inclusion and global connectivity for Nigerian users.
