Social media played a crucial role in Nigeria’s just concluded Presidential elections that ended with Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Even though the candidates were trending during the collation process, former minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe became the trending topic across Nigeria when he attempted to scuttle the process.
In the drama that lasted more than twenty minutes, the politician accused the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, of being selective, partial and ‘tribalistic’.
Orubebe was appointed Nigerian Minister of Niger Delta on 6 April 2010 when Acting President Goodluck Jonathan announced his new cabinet.
In a rather swift development, Wikipedia has updated the page of the politician to reflect the incident.
Wikipedia said: “Orubebe acted in a shameful manner on the 31st of March 2015 when he disrupted the collation of Nigeria’s presidential elections results. Orubebe tried to disrupt the result of the Nigerian 2015 presidential election results at the national collation centre Abuja in favour of his regional ally President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who apparently lost his re-election bid as the incumbent president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).”
