OpenAI is reportedly delaying the launch of its GPT Store until early 2024, as per an email viewed by The Verge. The company unveiled its GPT Builder tool at its inaugural developer conference in November, providing subscribers with a simple method to create custom AI bots.
OpenAI also announced it would soon launch the GPT Store, where users could list their GPTs and potentially profit from them. The initial plan was to launch it in November, but unexpected disruptions, including the temporary removal of CEO Sam Altman, resulted in a change of plans.
“In terms of upcoming developments, we now aim to introduce the GPT Store early next year,” OpenAI disclosed in an email to GPT Builder users on Friday. “Despite our original plan of releasing it this month, a few situations have kept us surprisingly busy!” The company also mentioned in the email that GPT enhancements had been in progress based on users’ feedback and some updates to ChatGPT were forthcoming.
Following recent upheavals, OpenAI is restructuring its leadership. The company confirmed on Wednesday that Altman had resumed his role as CEO, accompanied by Mira Murati as the new CTO and Greg Brockman as President. It also announced the establishment of an initial board, featuring a representative from Microsoft — its largest investor — as a non-voting observer.
