OpenAI has introduced a new subscription plan, ChatGPT Plus which will be available for $20/month. Innovation Village reported some days ago that the company was considering a paid version of its viral chatbot. There had been rumours that the paid version would cost $40 but it was not officially confirmed by OpenAI.
This paid version will be available to customers in the United States, and OpenAI says it will commence the process of inviting people from its waitlist over the coming weeks.
The benefits to subscribers of the paid version of ChatGPT include:
- General access to ChatGPT, even during peak times
- Faster response times
- Priority access to new features and improvements
“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so we could learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses and gather user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations,” OpenAI wrote in a blog post. “Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several important updates and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use cases including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help and learning new topics.”
OpenAI released its viral ChatGPT in November 2022. ChatGPT stands for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, and it is a chatbot developed by OpenAI that optimizes language models for dialogue. The application is built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 family of large language models, and is fine-tuned with both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.
People have been using ChatGPT for so many things including essay writing. This has been controversial as people in high schools and universities have taken to ChatGPT to do their essays and articles. Fortunately, OpenAI is currently testing a tool, an AI Text Classifier to help detect content that was AI-generated or written by a human.
For those who can’t afford to pay $20 for a paid plan, do not fret. The free version will still be available. However, It is still actively exploring options for lower-cost plans, business plans, and data packs for more availability.
OpenAI plans to expand access and support for ChatGPT Plus to additional countries and regions soon.
