The company’s initial focus was on Rwanda, where it established its first distribution centre in 2016. Commenting on the one-million-delivery milestone, Ryan Oksenhorn, Co-Founder of Zipline and Head of Software, stated, “Over the past decade, we’ve worked hard to build a system that scaled to 1 million paid customer deliveries. In the near future, I believe that 1 million deliveries will be unremarkable as we reach a million deliveries in a year, in a month, in a day. 10 years from now, I think clean, reliable autonomous delivery of goods and services will be available to everyone.”

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the US Federal Aviation Administration granted a waiver to Zipline’s partner organization, Novant Health, for medical supply and personal protective equipment (PPE) deliveries to healthcare facilities in North Carolina. This marked Zipline’s entry into the North American market, demonstrating the potential of its technology in developed countries as well.
