The Guinness World Records have declared President Obama the holder of the World Record For Fastest Million Follower Count. Barack Obama opened up a personal Twitter account @POTUS two days ago and in 4.5 hours, his followership grew to a million followers.
And this record is not a thing the people at Guinness just made up, The title has been existence for a short while, with the previous holder being ‘Ironman’ Robert Downey Jr. He attained the record when he reached a million followers in 23 hours and 22 minutes back when he joined the social network in 2014.
President Obama was on Twitter before now as @BarackObama but the account was managed primarily by his Organizing for Action staff and tweets by him had to be signed ‘-bo’. With the new @POTUS account, President Obama tweets himself and is already showing his fun nature through his tweets.
“The @POTUS Twitter account will serve as a new way for President Obama to engage directly with the American people, with tweets coming exclusively from him,” wrote the White House Deputy Director of Online Engagement for the Office of Digital Strategy, Alex Wall, in a blog post.
The United States President and former President Bill Clinton had a very funny exchange just moments after the @POTUS was launched.
PS: If you are not a keen follower of American politics, Bill Clinton’s wife is running for President next year.
