Nut Pro 3 ByteDance’s First Smartphone Released

Nut Pro 3, the once reputedly smartphone by TikTok’s owner ByteDance is now available, hence, making it ByteDance’s first smartphone.

It’s a continuation of work by the Chinese phone maker Smartisan (which partially explains the name), and it’s being released under the Smartisan brand.

Smartisan is back with this new phone after nearly a year of being absent from the smartphone scene, and it has arrived to take on other flagships.

As we learned earlier this year, ByteDance acquired a bunch of Smartisan patents and talent. ByteDance then helped make the Nut Pro 3 and packed it with branded features. Apparently, it didn’t decide to change the naming scheme.

Users will be able to launch Douyin — the Chinese version of TikTok — by swiping up on the lock screen, Abacus reports. They’ll also be able to apply TikTok effects and filters to videos of any length. So, while the phone might still be under the Smartisan brand, it will give ByteDance a dedicated device and platform to share its apps and features in new ways.

    Specifications

The Nut Pro 3 has a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a wide color gamut and 2 nits ultra-low brightness. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner for unlocking the device. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855+ processor and comes in three configurations – 8+128GB, 8+256GB, and 12+256GB.

On the back of the phone is Sony’s IMX586 48MP f/1.75 camera and it is paired with a 13MP 1.12um ultrawide angle camera with a 123° FOV. There is also an 8MP telephoto camera and a 5MP 2cm macro camera.

Smartisan says they added an algorithm that intelligently corrects distortion when using the ultrawide angle camera. The selfie camera is a 20MP Samsung 3T1 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 1.8um pixel size.

The Smartisan Nut Pro 3 packs several camera features including Super Night View 2.0 and 480fps slow-motion. The phone also ships with two popular apps pre-installed – NOMO and Cut-Off (剪映).

The NOMO camera app comes with four free camera filters (135 M, 135 B, FISHEYE and CAM BOY). You can also record videos with the rear and front-facing cameras at the same time.

The phone runs Smartisan UI 7.0 based on Smartisn OS 7.0 which brings lots of new features including Bing Bang 3.0, One Step 2.0, and Idea Pills 2.0. Its 4000mAh battery supports both 5V/3A and 9V/2A fast charge. There is dual-SIM support, a USB Type-C port but no audio jack.

    Price and Availability

    The Smartisan Nut Pro 3 is priced at ¥2899 (~$412) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB version. The 8GB RAM + 256GB version is ¥3199(~$455) and the 12GB RAM + 256GB version is ¥3599 (~$511).

The phone is available for purchase on JD.com, Tmall, and the official Smartisan site. Smartisan is also back with its story-based cases which start at ¥49 (~$7).
