Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup has named Numida, as the winner of Seedstars Kampala.
Numida, which is a financial management mobile app that issues affordable convenient and unsecured credit to small and medium enterprises in Uganda, beat ten other selected startups at the event held at Outbox Hub.
As a part of the prize, Numida will be participating at Seedstars Summit, taking place in Switzerland in April 2018, a weeklong training program with the opportunity to meet the other 75 winners, as well as investors and mentors from around the world.
Ubuntu Capital with its digital marketing and payment solutions for medium enterprises came second and Chap Chap Africa, a mobile payments platform that enables users to earn and save while they top-up airtime, pay bills and shop online, grabbed the last spot in the top 3. The other startups invited to pitch were Musana Carts, CHARIS FOR GRACE, ClinicPesa, Kuanza Gari Limited, TrendingshoW, hiDr and Money Duka.
The ten startups pitched in front of a prestigious jury: Evelyn Namara from ICT Association of Uganada, Rithu Rajan from EWB Ventures (Engineers Without Borders Canada), James Makumbi from Billable Ltd, Richard Zulu from Outbox Hub, and Anis Kallel from Seedstars.
Seedstars World’s next stop is Addis Abeba, to select the best startup in Ethiopia.
