The new owners of NITEL, NATCOM Consortium, have said the rejuvenated national carrier, NTel would have about 50 million 4G subscribers within the next 4 years.

Natcom Consortium rebranded the Nigeria Telecommunications to NTel, and it is confident it can reach more than 50 million 4G subscribers in Nigeria by 2020.

According to the CEO of NTel, Kamar Abass, the new telecommunications company will help build critical mass with its pure play LTE network, propagated on the Goldilock system at speeds of up to 240 Mbps. He said many people believed that the Nigerian telecoms industry has witnessed a transformation in the past fifteen years, but ntel is bringing about a new revolution, the Guardian reported.

Natcom chairman Olatunde Ayeni said his company was committing USD 1 billion to deployment and expansion in the first five years. It will be launching full commercial operations by March in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos, providing direct and indirect employment to over 4,000 people.
