At the Chelsea/Manchester City game of October 27 |
I first spotted the strange-looking men dressed all in black at one of the English Premier League matches; precisely the Chelsea v Manchester City game on the 27th of October 2013. I thought it had to do with a upcoming Halloween stunt. On another hand, it reminded of the orange headed men in the famous 1994 Mirinda commercial and I thought maybe it was a pre-launch campaign. But who was it?
I wondered who had the funds and guts to run this kind of campaign.
Well it turns out they also showed up at Juventus and Bayern Munich matches over the weekend while the mysterious symbol on their chests was seen in New York’s Time Square.

According to Samsung, the fantasy-inspired, football-themed campaign will follow the journey of 11 top-class football players as they come together and attempt to save Earth from alien domination.
Samsung has enlisted international football legend, Franz Beckenbauer, to serve as the manager of GALAXY 11, and will announce the first player recruited to join the team as captain on November 11 across Samsung Mobile social channels and a campaign microsite (www.theGALAXY11.com).
Most recently, an interview video with Franz Beckenbauer appeared on the Mysterious Circles YouTube channel below, discussing his plans to assemble a team of the best footballers in the world.
A longtime supporter of football around the world, GALAXY 11 represents the latest example of Samsung’s approach to developing innovative campaigns that leverage its people-inspired technology while uniting fans’ passions, helping to enhance everyday experiences in new and unexpected ways.
“Football is one of the most popular sports in the world and Samsung admires the power of football as a unifying force to rally and connect a global community of passionate fans,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics.
