Technology has created the ability for you to connect with virtually anyone, whether it’s a business professional that you admire, a peer that you desire to partner with or a potential future investor. Nowadays, you can tweet, follow, ”friend” and comment your way into a dialogue with just about anybody.
However, when it comes to “stalking,” some folks are great at it and some aren’t so endearing. How would you rate your stalking skills? Do you end up messing it up, creating an evidence that gets the person scared and thinking about your purpose for being on his/her page?
I’m here to help you stalk like a pro.
Here are ways to skillfully go about the stalking business without looking like a total creep:
- Use anonymous settings for LinkedIn
LinkedIn makes stalking look way creepier because of the fact that you can see who’s viewed your profile. Fine, people would always view your profile. But, how do you feel when there’s this particular person that views your profile every single day of the week?
If you’re used to stalking every single person you come across, but you don’t want to be seen as weird, go to privacy settings positioned on the drop down of the top right hand corner of the page and click on Manage. Now click on “what others see when you’ve viewed your profile”. Now select the option “you will be totally anonymous”. This way your profile is made anonymous, and you can stalk all you want without getting caught.
- Do it in the privacy of your own home
The reasoning behind this tip may seem obvious, but there’s more to it than you think. In general, no, you don’t want people catching you in the act of stalking. How embarrassing for a friend or coworker to walk up behind you only to see you going to town on someone’s Facebook profile!
Not just that, when you’re internet stalking, you should be concentrating as hard as you can. If you allow yourself to be subject to becoming startled while actively internet stalking, double-tap and accidental clicking of the “like” button are prone to happen. So remember: When you stalk, stalk alone and in a quiet environment.
- No likes
For the love of all that is sacred, do not accidentally click ‘like’ on some random picture from 2009 that you found during a 3 am expedition. Do not like or click on anything. Clicking is for rookies, you are a professional. The number one rule when stalking is that you cannot leave any trace of you ever being on their profile page. When the victim finds a trace you’re there, it then becomes either an invitation or trespassing which becomes a very different story.
So put on your gloves and stay an observer. You’re merely just passing through their Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and LinkedIn. If the mouse is too enticing, hold it by its outskirts. You cannot risk liking something to have all your stalking undone by a DM on IG that says “I see you’ve been on my page, can I help you?”
- Stalking is best on laptops and desktops
Stalking is best reserved for desktops and laptops. It is all too easy to either double tap a photo from 48 weeks ago or drop your phone on your face while scrolling in bed on your back. Either way it’s not going to end well for you. When stalking on your phone, you don’t get the full scope of the page you are searching on.
As a pro, your job is to get as much information as you can. To do so you are going to need to search all areas and all premises. That means take your time, sit back and relax, stalk with peace of mind, they can’t see you. Breathe easy and stay calm because that is when you do your best work. Stalk with pride.
